Rialto Bridge

An inhabited bridge in Venice over the Grand Canal.

The Rialto Bridge is an inhabited bridge in Venice over the Grand Canal. It connects the San Marco district with the San Polo district and is an important connecting point within the city itself. Originally designed as a simple pontoon bridge in the 1170s, it was rebuilt several times, culminating in its current version in 1591. It is one of four bridges, along with the Accademia Bridge, the Scalzi Bridge, and the Constitution Bridge, that span the Grand Canal within the city. It is the oldest of the four bridges.
